Young rods day

Young rods dayThe Chairman and Members of the Northumberland and Durham Committee of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust County Group are once again holding its popular young rods day at Chatton Trout Fishery, Chillingham, Northumberland by kind invitation of Roger and Alison Brown.

This one-day course, being held on Sunday 28 June 2009, is being generously sponsored by Hardy Grey of Alnwick and their team of experienced fly fishing instructors.  Experts from Hardy will give instruction on casting, knots and fly tying.  Youngsters will also have the opportunity of fishing the well stocked lake at Chatton and hopefully catch a fish!

The day, which runs from 10am to 3.30pm, will be packed full of practical advice and tips with plenty of time for discussion.  The course is aimed at youngsters both girls and boys aged 9 to 15 years old. The day costs £10 per child. For further information or to book a place, please contact Ken Johnson on 01670 514108 or email kandmjohnson@aol.com. Places are strictly limited so early booking is advisable.

Notes to editors

The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust is an independent wildlife conservation charity which carries out scientific research into Britain’s game and wildlife. We advise farmers and landowners on improving wildlife habitats and we lobby for agricultural and conservation policies based on science. We employ 14 post-doctoral scientists and 50 other research staff with expertise in areas such as birds, insects, mammals, farming and statistics.  We undertake our own research as well as projects funded by contract and grant-aid from Government and private bodies.   The Trust is also responsible for a number of Government Biodiversity Action Plan species and is lead partner for grey partridge and joint lead partner for brown hare and black grouse.
