Allerton Recycling - Farm waste recycling scheme

In early 2007, the implementation of The European Waste Directive on agricultural holdings represented a fundamental change to waste management for farmers.  No longer could waste, such as plastics, net wrap and pesticide containers, be burnt or buried on farm but they had to be disposed of via a licensed waste collection point.  Our objective was to create a ‘Recycling Club’ operating on a local basis to provide a cost effective, environmentally sound alternative to engage the farming community.

Allerton Recyling at the Allerton Project in Loddington receives waste from farm holdings, assembles, sorts, bales and palatise the waste for onward re-cycling.  The farm sets aside one day a month in which farmers can bring their waste to the site.
