Exclusive scarf has designs on conservation

Katrina Candy wears the scarf she has designed exclusively for the Game & Wildlife Conservation TrustA limited edition scarf has been produced for the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust to help raise funds to boost numbers of an iconic bird of British farmland – the grey partridge.

Designed by Katrina Candy the GWCT’s Perth-based head of PR and Education (Scotland), the delicate scarf has been inspired by the bird’s plumage and distinctive colouring.

Only 50 of the accessories have been produced and it is hoped that conservationists and fashionistas alike will purchase the exclusive scarf.

“This is the first time GWCT has produced such an item and so the scarf is a very special new addition to our merchandise range,” said Katrina.

“It is an exclusive design for the GWCT which I’m sure will make a very special gift or indeed a treat for those of us who like to complete an outfit with an attractive piece of neckwear.

“The grey partridge, as the logo for GWCT, is a much-loved species which has suffered huge declines in recent years and in conservation terms is quite an icon. It seemed appropriate to take inspiration from this bird to create my design which will hopefully boost GWCT funds.”

Notes to editors

The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust is an independent wildlife conservation charity which carries out scientific research into Britain’s game and wildlife. We advise farmers and landowners on improving wildlife habitats. We employ 22 post-doctoral scientists and 50 other research staff with expertise in areas such as birds, insects, mammals, farming, fish and statistics. We undertake our own research as well as projects funded by contract and grant-aid from Government and private bodies. The Trust is also responsible for a number of Government Biodiversity Action Plan species and is lead partner for grey partridge and joint lead partner for brown hare and black grouse.
