Abstract

This paper describes a survey of Black Crouse leks in seven 10km grid squares in highland Perthshire in 1990-92. Counts in April and May 1992 at 79 leks produced 697 cocks. An additional 25 cocks were found displaying singly. Leks were generally evenly distributed 1,500m apart within the altitudinal band 230-470m ASL. Densities of displaying cocks in Perthshire were compared with density estimates from other British and European studies.
