The winners of the first annual GWCT/Julian Gardner Photographic Competition have now been announced. Ian Boyd of Whittington Lodge Farm, near Cheltenham won in the adult category for his picture Partridges in the Snow, while Craig McCann from Cleveland took the under 16 prize with his study of Muirburn. For the full story, please visit our news page.
The competition was launched this year in memory of Julian Gardner, a Sussex farmer and lifelong supporter of the Trust, who was tragically killed while defending his property in October 2010.
A very kind donation from Julian’s family and friends enabled us to buy two trophies that were to be awarded at the CLA Game Fair. When the Fair was unfortunately cancelled due to wet weather, the winners were presented with their trophies by GWCT advisors Peter Thompson and Henrietta Appleton.
The GWCT is now looking for entries for next year's awards. The competition is open to all amateur photographers, not just our members, and is related to our research and advisory work – taking in all aspects of the UK countryside, including the people who live and work there, game, wildlife, all the various habitats and of course landscape.
