THE North Yorkshire committee has raised a record-breaking £152,841 for the UK’s leading wildlife research charity – the highest ever total raised by a county group.
Two charity clay shoots, pub quiz, partridge shoot raffle, river walk, sweepstakes, a successful dinner and donations helped the committee achieve the impressive total.
Sophie Dingwall, a regional organiser for the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT), said: “I’m indebted to everyone for making this possible. It’s been an incredible year for North Yorkshire as well as East Yorkshire and Northumberland exceeding a total of £200,000.”
There are big plans in the pipeline next year, with many events lined up including a pub quiz in Helmsley and Masham, shoot walks to discuss heather and woodland restoration, grey partridges and black grouse establishment and a charity clay shoot.

The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust – providing research-led conservation for a thriving countryside. The GWCT is an independent wildlife conservation charity which has carried out scientific research into Britain’s game and wildlife since the 1930s. We advise farmers and landowners on improving wildlife habitats.
