Listen to the Land a major feature at this year’s GWCT Scottish Game Fair

The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) is hosting a very exciting Storytelling Festival on the theme Listen to the Land at the 33rd GWCT Scottish Game Fair as part of the national Year of Stories initiative. An array of authors, scientists, and knowledgeable speakers have been gathered to celebrate the countryside, reflecting on halcyon days from the past and current work being done to protect the land for future generations. They will be exploring topics such as art and adventure, food, farming and folklore, conservation, climate change and culture. Listen to the Land is sponsored by NatureScot and Bidwells.

Talks will be hosted by, among others, Linda Mellor, Louise Gray and Guy Grieve across the weekend in our Adult’s Hive, with child friendly stories and workshops also happening in our Children’s Nest, and a number of specialist talks in our GWCT Working Conservationists marquee. All venues will be located around the GWCT central exhibit by the main arena on the fair site in the grounds of Scone Palace, Perth.

Iona Laing, representing the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, said:

“Listen to the Land will be a fascinating theme for our Scottish Game Fair weekend with talks and book readings for all ages. Our speakers will be delving into absorbing topics, encouraging bold conversations and provoking thought and discussion about land-use and conservation-related issues in our changing world. Many will feature important work and science, and we are looking forward to a weekend where the focus will be firmly on sharing thoughts and ideas.”

Francesca Osowska, Chief Executive, NatureScot said:

“NatureScot is delighted to be partnering with GWCT in celebrating the Year of Stories at the Scottish Game Fair. Working together to protect, restore and value our natural world is essential if we are to effectively tackle the twin crises of nature loss and climate change. Sharing experiences and observations, engaging respectfully in open and courageous conversations and taking a shared approach to managing wildlife can help us achieve the nature-rich future for Scotland we all want to see. We hope that the inspiring fair programme will also encourage more young people to consider a career in environmental management.”

Rory Kennedy, Director Scotland, the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, said:

“The GWCT Scottish Game Fair is a much-loved celebration of rural life and we are constantly looking to introduce new and exciting features. Listen to the Land is a great example and we hope it will entertain and inform as well as provoke consideration and debate about of the changing nature of land use in Scotland.”
