Not long now: guest blog by Northern Shooting Show

NSSLogoExcitement is mounting in anticipation of the latest show to stamp it’s authority on the UK shooting calendar. Last year’s Northern Shooting Show proved to be a great success with more than 15,000 visitors turning up to this specialist indoor & outdoor event.

This year’s show is growing by a third due to demand from exhibitors & visitors. The most noticeable addition to this year’s show is the new £12m exhibition hall which will house the UK & regions leading manufacturers, distributors & retailers all in an impressive single span 4,600sq m structure.

Organisers are putting the final touches to the show and have been in the fortunate position of being full with exhibitors almost three months before the show. This indoor & outdoor show promises to be a ‘must visit’ destination for the committed shooting enthusiast, as well as those new to the sport. Affordable entry for both visitors and exhibitors combine to make it the number one venue for all things shooting related.

The Show is taking place on the 6th and 7th of May at The Great Yorkshire Showground, near Harrogate in Yorkshire; this beautiful showground is in the heart of ‘God’s Own County’ and easily accessible from all parts of the UK, as it’s just off the M1 near Scotch Corner.

The fantastic venue is situated within a gently sloping, grassed showground and has two main, purpose built halls, housing firearms and shotguns in the new £12m Hall 1 and Airguns in Hall 2.

It’s not just these two halls however, as there are a host of activities happening around the ground, such as a massive 550m clayline with ‘have a go’, manufacturer shotgun demo area and 50 bird sporting & 20 bird grouse competitions. Busy gamekeeping & gundog area along with a regional qualifier of the BASC Chudleys Gun dog heat.

Gunmakers Hall 1

The ‘FMJ Zone’ in Hall 1 will be full of specialist companies, so there will be something for all show goers; shooters of ‘tactical’ style rifles, deer stalkers, vermin controllers and game shooters are all well catered for.

The ‘clubhouse’ is a dedicated meeting point set-aside for club, forum & society members to meet up with friends, making for a very sociable day out.

Deer focus area

We will be launching a new specialist area called Deer Focus, for this year’s show. The area will be specific to everything deer related including hunting & stalking along with deer management. British Deer Society, BASC, SACS, UKDTR & NGO will be present offering member benefits along with CIC & BASC trophy measuring services.

Popular exhibitors such as Best Deer Call, Nomad Clothing, Keith Watson High Seats, Bush Wear, Stalkers UK, Macintyre & Thompson, Stalkers Dream, Polaris ATV’s & Fisher Game Larders make up the area and to cap it off the demonstration and presentation stage will be hosted by the popular Pace Brothers. Last but not least we are excited we can now announce we will be holding the first UK Red Stag Call Competition at the show, a first for any UK show the format is similar to calling competitions throughout the world. Use your own vocal method to call and showcase your Red Stag skills. Your call will be judged for realism and dominance, as well as originality and artistic flair! It’s free to enter and the winner gets a Zeis V6 scope worth £1,600.

Artisans & Classics Pavilion

The Artisans & Classics Pavilion will house representatives from the Historical Breechloading Smallarms Association (HBSA) UK Cartridge Club, The Lovat Society and The Muzzle Loaders Association Of Great Britain.

By Sword and Musket will have a range of classic bolt action military rifle and Tim Owen will be demonstrating the art of hand engraving. Stock making is an art form in itself and Roman Lepinois will be demonstrating how traditional stock making is done.

NSSDogIt’s clear that there will be something for everyone at The Northern Shooting Show but there’s much, much more! The Gamekeeping and Gundog Area, Bushcraft Area and the dedicated Airsoft Experience area are just a few of the other attractions that show goers will be able to visit.

Add to that all the accessory, clothing and general shooting equipment companies that will be in attendance and you’ve got a great day out for all the family! Great food will be available, so there’s no need to go hungry, why not try Yapas (Yorkshire Tapas!)

All manner of demonstrations will be taking place throughout the day, so there will be plenty to see and do, even when taking a break from the main halls.
