During the next four weeks we aim to catch and fit 10,000 salmon parr and 3000 trout parr with a Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag. This is the same type of small tag used to ‘chip’ your cat or dog and will allow us to individually identify the fish for the rest of their life.
Our in-river PIT antennae, operating hands off 24/7, will record information on migration patterns and survival from the tagged individuals. This information will improve our understanding of salmonid life history and enabling us to develop better management advice.
