Getting started

Create an account

In your web browser, go to trapper.azurewebsites.net. You will find it useful to bookmark this page – you might even want to make it the home page for your browser. Follow the instructions on this web page to create an account. We advise you not to agree to any pop-up your web browser may produce offering to remember your password for this site.

The dialogue prompts you to name your ‘organisation’ (see explanation below) and contact person. We need to know who is using our system, and be able to contact you.

The organisation is the management team within which you and your colleagues operate and share trap information. This makes obvious sense on large shooting estates where there may be several gamekeepers under one head keeper; but it may also apply to shooting syndicates, pest control services, or even husband-and-wife teams. Operators within your organisation can pick up all the details necessary to operate a different beat. Individual traps may in any case be included in more than one beat.

If you operate alone, the organisation, contact and account manager are all the same person: you. We still need your contact details so that, if necessary, we can contact you about the data you have stored. You may still want to organise your traps into beats that are grouped by areas, operated at different times, or checked on different trap rounds. You may also want to name a stand-in operator in case you are indisposed for any reason – he can then pick up operation of your traps using his own login on his own phone. The traps’ locations will be visible on a map (which he can print off). In the field, the map will be visible only if there is a phone signal allowing connection to the internet. Offline, only the Field Recording page is available; this has a compass pointer which will guide your deputy to each trap in turn.

The Create Account dialogue also establishes who will be the administrative operator for the account. Choose a name for yourself (can be real or fictitious) that’s easy to type in and recognisable to others in your organisation. Please use a password that you are unlikely to forget. The symbol at the right of the password box allows you to check that you have typed the password correctly (click to show characters). If you do forget your password, there is a ‘forgotten password’ routine as on most websites.

Once you have entered your details and submitted your details, you will be sent a validation email.
