Fishing in Scotland - The best natural therapy: A guest blog by Alba Game Fishing

Fishing Blog 1

You want to maximise your down time, escape the city and disconnect from the bustle of everyday life to reconnect, then a fishing trip in Scotland could be the perfect antidote.

I’ve always seen fishing as a form of relaxation therapy and a way to completely shut out the conscious babble and constant noise of every day life. After all when you are engaged in the sport of fishing you are able to truly relax and in between have moments of excitement as try to land your quarry.

When I set up Alba Game Fishing in 2004 we set out to create a company that delivered more than just fishing trips. By adding in extras such as professional photography, cooked lunches, accommodation and travel, we morphed over the years to become more of a tour operator.

Finding the best fishing in Scotland is really about what works for individual needs and so consulting with us at the outset is vital, so we can clearly understand what delivers a memorable experience.

We have a team of 25 guides located throughout Scotland and offer fishing for salmon, trout, pike, grayling, and saltwater sea fishing trips.

Our trips are ideal for beginners or experts alike. Casting instructors can help master the art of fly fishing and we can provide high quality fishing tackle if needed as well as waders, boots, waterproofs and life vests.

The secret to finding the best fishing in Scotland, is knowledge of the venues and the best times throughout the season for each one. They are all different and dependant on factors such as water levels, climate and spawning cycles.

This is an all inclusive sport and we welcome men, women, children and people with disabilities. In addition we support most of the organisations that promote conservation of fish species and habitats. Catch and release is very much the way we like to operate, and with that in mind and if you are releasing a fish, its vital to get a good photo as a keepsake! We offer full-frame professional photography with prime lenses as an option and drone footage if the weather behaves.

But its not just about the fishing! We enjoy pulling together other elements such as river side lunches, food foraging, fly tying demonstrations and tours of Scotland. If couples want to visit and do a mixed fishing and touring vacation, this is something we have specialised in for the last 13 years.

Finally our world has been turned upside down by Covid - 19 and during lockdown we have been busy preparing for a successful exit strategy. We have trained all of our guides in Covid infection and prevention (World Health Organisation training) and carry PPE like gloves, sanitiser (made by our local Gin company and masks. A post lockdown fishing day with us will be relaxing and organised and rest assured our team are on the ball. We look forward to welcoming you. Tight Lines
