Fish research at the Trust is centred around the Salmon & Trout Research Centre in East Stoke, Dorset. We have been monitoring Atlantic salmon numbers in the River Frome at the site since 1973, creating one of the most comprehensive records of salmon movement in England and Wales. We work in collaboration with teams throughout Europe to study the global decline in salmon numbers.
Our trout studies aim to understand the ramifications of stocking in order to ascertain what methods are most favourable to the natural wild stock. In addition, we are undertaking and evaluating habitat restoration programmes on selected river catchments.
