GWCT Scotland host an annual Schools Art Competition across Perth and Kinross, Angus and Aberdeenshire, all pupils are invited to submit a picture of their favourite native species in its natural habitat. The competition attracts a whole range of wonderful artwork from lapwing to lamprey, children as young as 4 years old send in the most colourful and brilliant creations.
2025 saw Jamie Farrow win the Aberdeenshire overall primary competition with his super image of a capercaillie. Mel Shand, Finzean based artist has been hugely supportive of our competition for many years and generously offers a private art workshop in her home studio as a prize. Mel introduced Jamie to her wonderful collection of pets which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Our overarching aim is to encourage pupils to learn about the species which live around them, think about the habitat they require and consider what we can do to help these species, building a passion for nature.
The next art competition will be launching this coming August open to all pupils across Perth and Kinross, Angus and Aberdeenshire, details will be shared with all schools in good time.
