Win a day's driven grouse shooting for 8 in the Cairngorms
The GWCT is delighted to offer this incredible opportunity to win the most exhilarating game shooting available – driven red grouse; the king of gamebirds.
We are presenting this magnificent chance to eight guns in the heart of Royal Deeside during the 2018 season. The lucky winner of this draw will be able to invite seven friends to enjoy a wholly unforgettable experience as they put their shooting skills to full test against the grouse exocets of Mar Estate, deep in the stunning Cairngorm Mountains. This unique sporting challenge has been generously made available by Mar Estate.
Tickets are £2 each, available in books of 20 tickets.
The date of the shoot day will be during the 2018 open grouse season. Confirmation of the day will be dependent on the 2018 grouse counts, with the day agreed by prior arrangement with Mar Estate. If grouse stocks don’t allow shooting, the day will be carried forward to the following season. Estate vehicles will be provided on the day.
By separate arrangement, the winner of the draw along with his or her chosen team (including partners), can enjoy truly luxurious accommodation in the Mill of Dess Lodge, kindly donated by Lower Dess Estate. The lodge is in the heart of the very private Lower Dess Estate, in a totally unspoilt rural setting within easy driving distance of Aberdeen airport.
Eight double rooms with en suite bathrooms will be made available and even dogs are provided for within a separate kennel block! Dinner and breakfast will be another highlight of this fantastic prize, with delicious food using the finest locally sourced Aberdeenshire produce and cooked by the resident chef. The excellent wine list can be explored but under separate agreement with the Lodge.
The Mar Estate
The Mar Estate is located 60 miles west of Aberdeen, close to Balmoral and marching with Invercauld and Mar Lodge estates. Mar is carefully managed for both red grouse and red deer, enjoying a historical reputation for being one of the great deer forests of Scotland.
Grouse have been present in good numbers since the earliest game books in the 1840’s. The estate was butted for driven grouse in 1925, and today Guns continue to enjoy awesome sport in the estate’s high corries where some butts are close to 3,000 feet.
Argocats reach most butts, but some walking to the higher butts is required on the estate’s four driven beats. When you get to those high butts, the views into the heart of the Cairngorms are unparalleled. But keep looking ahead because Mar grouse do not hang about!
The draw will take place on 10th December 2017.
Proceeds of the Draw will help support the work of the Trust, helping us achieve our objectives.
