Grey partridge at the Buckland estate:
Head keeper Dan McSharry started the Grey partridge project off in 2010 with 3 wild pairs of English Grey partridge and the project now covers some 2,500 acres. The spring count in 2018 was 56 pairs of wild Greys and the estate has shot 50 brace over the last 2 years.
Dan won the coveted Purdy award in 2016 for “Special single handed keeper award” for his management of wild grey partridge. Dan now has an under-keeper to help him!
The estate was also awarded the GWCT Cotswold Grey Partridge Trophy in 2017 for outstanding management for Grey partridge.
So do join us to look over this fascinating project to find out exactly how to manage for this iconic game bird, which also benefits all the other farmland wildlife too!
