CLA Game Fair cancelled

The CLA has announced that it will no longer be running the annual CLA Game Fair, with the scheduled 2016 event at Ragley Hall now cancelled.

The board have made their decision following three years where insufficient income was generated.

Farmers Weekly report that CLA accounts for the year ending 30th November 2014 show that income for the 2014 Game Fair was £3.9m, but costs were £4.276m – resulting in a loss of £376,000.

The CLA say those who have bought tickets for the 2016 show will have their payments refunded as quickly as possible, with more information due in the next few days.

Director General of the CLA Helen Woolley said: “We are clear that the Game Fair can no longer be run by the CLA in its current form. We will, however, begin a period of consultation in which we will invite proposals from other organisations on how the Game Fair might be able to continue.”

You can read the CLA statement here and we will share any news on this subject as soon as we get it.

CLA Game Fair - A Yearly Tradition

at 19:24 on 05/11/2015 by Lisa

I go to the Game Fair when it is in the South of the UK at Blenheim Palace or Ragley Hall and enjoy doing so. But, I have to agree the tickets are priced way too high. I cannot believe that the show does not generate a profit. It is always absolutely packed. It really must be a case of bad management. Members should have to pay a contribution too. It would be interesting to know just how much the CLA Fair loses in lost revenue from the free entry given to these members. Maybe they could get 25% off the tickets. This could also pave the way for us general public to pay less. £25 would be fair. After hotels etc have been paid for 3 nights it is not cheap to visit. I had already booked accommodation for next year in Alcester. What a waste.

Need to see the accounts inorder to make an informed judgement.

The CLA GAME FAIR

at 12:01 on 24/09/2015 by Steven Hollingsworth

I am amazed The Game Fair cannot be professionally managed to run at a profit especially with attendance figures of up to 150,000 in recent years. If the gate prices were better value for money you would get three times that amount of visitors. The pitch prices should be fairer because they have priced out smaller businesses in recent years. The price to camp on site was just a rip-off. Everybody should pay an entrance fee. Why should CLA members and others get in for nothing? All running costs should be researched so that you are not paying more for insurance, security etc than you should. Finally the provider of the site should be on a percentage of the profit from the Game Fair, after all costs have been paid and not paid a Fixed Fee for the site. Advertising for the Show should be more widespread because the general public knows nothing about this event, only those that actively participate in hunting, shooting or fishing sports. Events like these are run at a profit all over the world, especially the USA. Perhaps we can learn from them and keep the tradition of the Game Fair alive, prosperous and flourishing.

Hear, hear, Michael Farmer. Now is the time to get back to basics.

Having worked at the game fair for many years it is a miracle that it has survived so long. Organised by lovely upper class people with the right accents but zero management ability. The most common expression you here is " I am awfully sorry but". I hope a profesional organisation takes over and gets rid of the members only attitude.

The GamFair has long since lost its way, too many hat stands and junk stalls. It should be only about shooting fishing and hunting as it used to be. The entrance fee of £35.00 was far too high no wonder no one visits, the lets rip off the well off guns attitude has to stop or the future of shooting will not be good. Michael Farmer

Poor management and over priced tickets. The prices for this year make the weekend extremely costly especially if you have children and hotels to book.

Comes as no great surprise as the event was certainly poorly marketed.

Is it true that members pay no or reduced admission? If so, surely a half price ticket for all members would generate sufficient revenue to offset the loss?

The Game Fair - there is a future

I am shocked to read of these losses. Having attended for the last 3 years on a Friday I cannot comprehend how you can be so far adrift on income vs. expenditure. I would be quite happy to volunteer to help in any way possible to get a Game Fair back on the calender.
