TEAM GB Olympic superstars the Brownlee brothers and Peter Wilson inspired a packed audience with a fascinating talk organised by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) on Tuesday December 5.
At Duke's’ Auctioneers in Dorchester, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee spoke with host Peter, a life member of GWCT, about how they rose to success from living a normal life in Yorkshire to becoming the leading names in the world of triathlon.
The world-famous brothers gave insight into their strict training regime, the dietary requirements they follow, what it was like to win medals at both London 2012 and Rio 2016, what they have in store in the future as well their views on drugs in sport.
Dorset-based Peter also shared tales of his own illustrious career which saw him set a double trap world record in 2012, shooting 198 out of 200 in Tuscon, Arizona, before clinching gold at London Olympics.
The audience also asked a range of questions of the three Olympians, one of which was about the moment in 2016 in Mexico at the World Triathlon Series where Alistair sacrificed his chance to win by helping his exhausted brother Jonny, the 2012 Triathlon World Champion, over the finish line.
Peter also explained how he got know the brothers during filming for a one-off BBC show called Superstars which featured 16 athletes from London’s Team GB gunning to be the best all-round star.
Peter recalled, to the audience’s amusement, how he beat Alistair in the 100m running race by 0.0001 of a second!
After the talk, a successful auction took place where guests bidded on a t-shirt signed by Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, a training wetsuit worn by one of the siblings, a starter lesson for two people at Purbeck Shooting School and an introductory gliding lesson at Purbeck Gliding Club.
There were also four lucky winners who won a bike ride with the Brownlee brothers in Dorset.
