Schöffel Country donates more than £3,000 to GWCT appeal

Jim Paice

Black Friday sales helped Schöffel County raise more than £3,000 towards a special initiative which aims to protect fieldsports for future generations.

Having pledged to make a £5 donation to the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) for every order placed on its website from Black Friday through to Cyber Monday (November 23-26), the country clothing specialist has now announced that it has made a total contribution of £3,295 to the worthy cause. The funds have gone directly to GWCT’s 2018 Game Appeal, which aims to ensure positive long-term prospects for country sports.

The appeal will fund a national information programme to be targeted at those new to shooting as well as the general public. In addition to working with shooting schools, it will involve events across the country and give novice and experienced Guns the chance to test and supplement their existing knowledge.

Schöffel Country brand director Marcus Janssen commented: “GWCT is the perfect recipient of this donation because its scientific work is vitally important to the future of our sport, which needs all the support we can give. The value of this research was especially obvious in the recent House of Commons debate on driven grouse shooting. Science is crucially important and when debating and passing legislation, that is what politicians will look at. It all comes down to hard-core science and data. This is exactly what the GWCT produces and it illustrates brilliantly the wide-ranging benefits that country sports generate. We are proud to support it.”

GWCT chairman Sir Jim Paice said: “We are very grateful to Schöffel Country for supporting this hugely important appeal. Shooting is growing in popularity, season after season, so we ensure that they have sufficient knowledge of the countryside, respect how it is run and help it to flourish. We need to get the key facts out to the shooting community and drive up standards, allowing good game management to thrive. That’s what this scheme is all about.”
