Adhere to the relevant codes of practice: Our letter to Countryman’s Weekly

Dear editor,

The recent article (Snaring foxes is an essential tool for the gamekeeper, 09/01/19) quite rightly stresses the importance of adhering to the relevant codes of practice and using the correct hardware in the correct manner to ensure fox snaring is humane and efficient. It was very unfortunate that the article was accompanied by old photos showing a non-code compliant snare (no breakaway component) and set in a position next to a fence where entanglement, and hence injury, is likely. Setting the snare next to a structure that could cause a captured animal injury through entanglement is a breach of the relevant codes of practice. For further details about fox snaring, including the relevant codes of practice and information on training courses, visit www.gwct.org.uk.
