It is reassuring to read that George Eustice wants to ‘support the choices that farmers and land managers take’ (Free-range farmers to be paid more under post-Brexit reforms to agriculture subsidies, 30 November). The men and women working hard to deliver conservation success alongside profitable land use are often overlooked, but the more we celebrate their achievements, the more will follow suit. It is only by rewarding people for taking the right steps for wildlife that we can achieve national recoveries.
