Opening Date: 15th January

The Government, through the Farming Innovation Programme, is set to launch another round of the Large R&D Partnerships competition on 15th January. This initiative aims to allocate a share of £7.8 million to farmers, growers, and foresters in England. The focus is on advancing ideas that enhance productivity, sustainability, and resilience, while steering the sector towards net-zero emissions.

Competition Essentials

In collaboration with delivery partners Innovate UK, a division of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the competition guidance has been published. The Large R&D Partnerships competition supports industrial research and experimental development projects. These range from accelerating the development of new agricultural solutions to integrating them into existing practices. The key areas of interest include livestock, plants, novel food production systems, bioeconomy, and agroforestry.

Industry Challenges and Opportunities

The Government encourages businesses to form partnerships to address significant challenges or opportunities in the specified subsectors. Projects should notably enhance productivity, sustainability, environmental impact, and contribute to progress in achieving net-zero emissions.

Project Criteria and Funding Details

Projects, lasting up to 4 years with values ranging from £3 million to £5 million, require business contributions. The aim is to fund a diverse portfolio across various technologies, industry sectors, and business sizes. Emphasis is placed on demonstration, facilitating commercialization, and adoption of new solutions.
