All of us in Scotland are counting down the days until 4th July – and for different reasons to our friends in the USA! This year the Scottish Game fair at Scone Palace begins that day, running until Sunday 6th July and we’ve got plenty to keep everyone interested.

Over 200 pupils visited Abercairney in the sun last week, primary pupils on the first day and secondary on the second. The day was run by the Moorland Groups under their new Educational Programme, Learn on the Land.

25 years of the Purdey Awards have brought recognition to many shoots, vividly demonstrating the strong link between game management and conservation, but there are surely many more shining examples out there, so let’s look forward to celebrating many more in the years to come.

GWCT’s Ceredigion Committee hosted their 3rd Clay Shoot at the Dovey Valley on Sunday 16 March, welcoming 100 guns. Squads of 6 were faced with 10 stands with varying challenges, on a sunny but crisp morning.

Gamekeepers, estate managers, land agents and shooting organisations from across the North of England and Scotland gathered for this year’s Upland Game Conference in Barnard Castle, Co. Durham, to hear from a wide range of speakers including scientists specialising in upland research, policy experts and advisors on moorland management techniques.

The GWCT’s annual Game Conference is promising to deliver an excellent line-up of speakers and a day packed with insightful and informative talks. This year’s event will take place on Tuesday 18 March at the charity’s headquarters at Fordingbridge in the New Forest.
