When it comes to researching the environmental impacts of game shooting, Britain leads the world. This has largely been achieved by those that shoot funding ecological studies, including the hundreds of scientific papers published by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust.

Those who use the start of the grouse season as another excuse to call for an end to driven shooting have yet to suggest an alternative way of paying for the management of our precious moorland.

This article outlines the principles for the safe operation of game shoots in England through reference to relevant Government guidance and regulation. It has been produced to assist those managing game shoots and reduce the risk posed by COVID-19.
