We'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. Without you our finances would be in a far more precarious position than they currently are. Last year was tough for all of us, but your generosity and the sacrifices our staff have made mean we are able to to run an active programme of work in 2021.

The Guardian recently reported on a study by Dr Adam Pellegrini of Cambridge University that has highlighted that wildfires are impacting on the ability of forests to capture carbon due to changes in tree density and size. Given that trees are increasingly seen as a natural climate solution, the more we can understand the consequences of afforestation the better.

GWCT Wales are disappointed with Welsh Government’s announcement that the whole of Wales will be made into a Nitrate Vulnerable Zone. 

Here are a few of our non-game research findings that you might not be aware of from the GWCT.

The Owl Box Initiative was born through funds awarded by the Green Recovery Challenge Fund. Project organisation and activities were set in motion at the end of last year with the purchase of 64 flat-packed barn owl nest boxes, to be distributed to farms across six farmers clusters in Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset.

Biodiversity Net Gain is an approach to land management that leaves our wildlife and their habitats in a better state than before. This approach is at the heart of what we do at the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT)

Gamekeepers are being called upon to help create a more accurate national picture of resistance to rodenticides in rats and mice. In return, participants will get a free indication of their shoot's status from the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) which is running the appeal.
