It is bizarre that the RSPB should now suggest (Feathers fly over who to thank for saving hen harrier, Aug 6) that these successes have been achieved through nest protection alone. 

We welcome news of the extension to the ‘payment by results’ pilot (Defra to fund revolutionary ‘payment by results’ agri-environment scheme, August 2), which recognises that farmers are well-placed to implement measures which will boost the environment around them. 

The shooting of mountain hares is a sustainable activity in Scotland and the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) has 50 years mountain hare data to underpin this fact.

After a busy few days at Game Fair, GWCT is heading to the historic grounds of Blenheim Palace for BBC Countryfile Live.

Conservationists have heaped praise on grouse moor owners for resisting grants, from successive governments, to drain their heather moors and plant commercial forestry blocks, on what is now recognised as a globally rare habitat.

IN just a few days’ time, GWCT will be heading to Ragley Hall, Warwickshire for the 60^th Game Fair (July 27^th to July 29^th).
