Help us prove the true value of sustainable game management
Can you imagine a thriving countryside without the benefits of sustainable game management? Neither can we. Yet, unless we act now, that future is a real possibility.
Across the UK, shoots and land managers are under increasing pressure from licensing changes, disease threats like Avian Influenza, and growing public scrutiny. Without hard evidence, decisions are being made without the full picture, and wildlife loses out.
By Dr. Roger Draycott, Director of Advisory and Gamebird Policy
Why data matters more than ever
Sustainable game management delivers:
- More butterflies and breeding songbirds
- Hedgerows and diverse habitats
- Measurable gains for biodiversity.
Our peer-reviewed science has shown this for decades. But right now, crucial information is slipping through the cracks. We urgently need to capture and share data at landscape scale to show government, the media, and the public the positive impact of well-managed land across the UK.
A groundbreaking new digital platform
We’re building on our legacy of practitioner evidence – from the Big Farmland Bird Count to the Advisory Biodiversity Tool – to create a pioneering new digital app and platform.
This tool will allow land managers to:
- Record wildlife sightings and key farmland bird species
- Track nest locations and predator control success
- Map habitat improvements across landscapes
- Submit data to GWCT in real time
- Receive tailored advice to boost biodiversity.
It will turn boots-on-the-ground knowledge into credible, actionable science that policymakers cannot ignore.
We need your help to raise £40,000
Your donation can:
- Support testing in remote areas
- Fund beta trials on working farms and estates
- Develop software for biodiversity tracking
- Integrate mapping, tagging, and reporting tools
- Bring us closer to national launch
Together, we can give farmers, land managers and conservationists the evidence they need to defend sustainable game management and safeguard wildlife at a landscape scale.
Act now and help us unlock the data
Every donation, large or small, helps us build a smarter, wilder countryside.
By supporting this appeal you’ll be part of GWCT’s 100-year legacy of practitioner evidence – and help us write its next chapter.
