High Gun Clay Challenge
Carnell has been home to the Findlays for more than 700 years and boasts spectacular countryside to present very high, fast targets for experienced guns. The 14th century mansion house and magnificent surrounding estate once again provided an awesome backdrop for our guns on this simulated high clay challenge.
Lively 150 bird flushes put all 21 teams to the test at four of Carnell’s signature drives as teams of five battled it out for the cup – including Carnell’s home team, where the young Findlays enjoyed some back-up from shooting’s first lady, Claire Zambuni and the Scottish Field’s Richard Bath.
After a morning of extremely hot barrels and plenty of challenging pigeons, the guns made their way back to the house for ‘sloegasm’ cocktails, followed by a delicious luncheon of roast beef and lobster, with strawberries, pavlova and ice cream (courtesy of Graham’s Family Dairy).
Lunch was followed by a short but very lively charity auction in aid of the GWCT and Capability Scotland with presenter and comedian Fred Macaulay, and then the winners were announced. Congratulations to our new Carnell Champions, the Garpel Gunners, who took the trophy home for this year.
Enormous thanks to our kind hosts, generous donors, sponsors and all who made the Carnell Cup such a fantastic and thoroughly fun day.
