Welsh Engagement & Communications Officer (Maternity Cover)

Job description

  • To deliver a wide range of innovative communications and engagement activity that will inform, inspire, involve and influence.
  • Organise, run and attend meetings and events when necessary – experience with remote event management at differing budgets and target audiences, including policy, education and fundraising.
  • Identify and manage any concerns, queries or problems emanating from members, interested parties, groups or individuals.
  • Facilitate communications and CRM for various networks, including a farm community.
  • Co-ordinate bilingual publicity and knowledge sharing of the work of the GWCT and of events to achieve good attendance numbers from both members and non-members.
  • You will be expected to present well-aligned messages including research and policy material, with confidence and credibility to a range of audiences, through traditional and digital marketing methods.
  • You will have a good understanding and interest in modern farming, and integrating game into management of the land the running of shoots and fishing, for producing strong contextual communications aimed at niche audiences within each industry.
  • Delivery of effective bilingual media relations including updating material for website in conjunction with the Trust’s PR & Press Office.
  • Represent GWCT Wales at appropriate forums; work with others as required.

Job requirements

  • Develop media and communication of the work that you and the wider Trust are doing.
  • Being responsible for websites and ensuring content relevant and up to date.
  • Be competent with online software and databases in conjunction with working remotely.
  • Be able to work independently with short turnaround, adaptability to manage different aspects of the role to support wider team.
  • Be competent in producing media (including social media) in both English and Welsh.
  • Provide weekly a written report about meetings, and activities generally, and keep the Director Wales and the team informed of developments.
  • Be a team player; approachable, flexible, engaging, enthusiastic and welcoming to all.
  • To take every opportunity to recruit new members.
  • Have a good understanding of basic accounting procedures and business management.


  • High level of IT competence, including basic experience with Adobe Create Cloud/other design apps and online CRM systems. Essential.
  • Financial competence. Essential.
  • Track record of effective engagement, communication and organising of events and workload. Essential.
  • BSc/BA-level degree in a relevant subject and work-related experience. Desirable.
  • A good understanding of modern farming and game management practices and procedures. Desirable.
  • Fluent Welsh speaker. Desirable.


With this maternity position, the successful candidate will be stepping into an established schedule of events arranged and in planning connected to the role, including the Welsh Game Fair, requiring strong organisation skills to quickly pick up planning and input during a handover period.

A communications and event calendar for the year will be provided as part of handover notes, in line with the wider organisation strategy.

This role plays an intrinsic part of the Welsh team, communicating with other individuals on a daily basis both internal and external. Cohesive working with the communications and marketing department from HQ & Fundraising Department is also required.

Day to day, the job varies to meet the needs and requirements of the internal and external environment – adaptability and being able to prioritise workload is key, whilst determining engaging content.
