Scottish clay day a success despite wild weather

A superb day’s clay shooting was had by all on Sunday 1st October with Bisley at Braidwood who put on 8 challenging stands and 2 flushes.

The early morning rain very kindly cleared up while bacon rolls and coffee were consumed to provide sufficient energy for the day ahead and then the guns were off to stands which included bolting rabbits, rising teal, bursting partridge and flushes of high pheasant and driven grouse.

All were challenging and when the wind and rain returned the odds seemed stacked in favour of the clays but the guns kept on and posted some high scores.

Back in the café afterwards we were treated to a delicious two course meal with the wine kindly provided by Corney and Barrow. Some wonderful auction and raffle items including Roe deer stalking, duck flighting, rabbit shooting with ferrets at GWCT demonstration farm at Auchnerran and Corney and Barrow Sloe gin helped raise over £1300.

Congratulations go out to The Clay Pigeon Conservationists who won the overall competition for the second time in 2 years, with the Bruce Stevenson Team and Ardmoor coming second and third respectively.
