Leading scientists and advisors from the Trust will discuss in detail the key elements that are required to bring about recovery of grey partridges. There will be an opportunity after lunch to tour our innovative demonstration farm at Loddington.
We have led the way on grey partridge research and conservation for over 70 years, and through our Partridge Count Scheme and network of grey partridge farmer-led conservation groups have helped grey partridge numbers increase more than three-fold over the last ten years on around 1,000 farms.
Typically, on farms undertaking sympathetic management for grey partridges, songbird numbers are 20% higher and on average record five more species of birds than on neighbouring farmland. This is in contrast to the continuing national decline in farmland bird numbers we so often hear about.
We would like to disseminate this knowledge and approach to species recovery and farmland conservation to professional on-farm advisors to help kick-start a national recovery of grey partridges.
