Allargue Estate is the 2014 Joint Gold Award Winner of the prestigious Purdey Awards for Game and Conservation.
The Estate’s long-term project to restore 500 acres of mature conifers on ex-Forestry Commission land to heather is an excellent example of heather restoration providing good habitat for game and wildlife.
An afternoon’s walk on the Estate offers you the perfect opportunity to see first hand the remarkable improvements that have been made to wildlife habitats and how sensitive tree removal can benefit a number of species including black grouse, lapwing and curlew.
This guided tour will focus on effective grouse moor management including best practice guidance and an insight into what it takes to become a Purdey Award winner. The walk will end with a black grouse lek viewing (hopefully!) before returning for a delicious barbecue.
