Prize worth £25,000 to be won in popular 2017 Gun Draw

Driven Grouse Shooting

One of the most lucrative prizes in fieldsports - a day’s driven grouse shooting and a new pair of 12-bore shotguns all worth £25,000 - is up for grabs in the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust’s 2017 Gun Draw.

Shooting enthusiasts have until Friday December 15 to buy a £50 ticket for the popular draw.

The lucky winner, who will be announced on Monday December 18, will receive a day’s driven grouse shooting with an expected bag of 75 brace, a pair of 12-bore shotguns and 500 game cartridges, all courtesy of William Powell.

In addition, ahead of the shoot, a three-hour fitting session with Tom Payne at the Oxfordshire Shooting School will be provided.

Last year’s winner, Jack London, who scooped those prizes, took full advantage of the day’s shooting in September with his brother-in-law in the grounds of the stunning Ashop Moor, Derbyshire.

Shooting pigeon, pheasants and partridge is familiar territory for Jack but grouse shooting is something he seldom gets the chance to do.

Speaking after the going on the once-in-a-lifetime prize, he said: “The day was fantastic, I have done a lot of various shotgun shooting and I have to say grouse shooting is by far the best, the birds are just on another level and the scenery just adds to the day’s greatness.

“I shot 5 brace by the end of the day, the angle of the birds and the speed of them is like nothing else it takes some time to adjust to get your eye in.

“It still doesn't seem real that the guns are actually mine and I don't have to give them back. The pair are absolutely stunning and my hit rate has almost doubled.”

Money raised from the draw will support GWCT’s scientific research programmes for game and wildlife conservation.
