AN Oxfordshire gamekeeper has been crowned this year’s champion for grey partridge conservation in the Cotswold area.

A NEW project that aims to improve the conservation of bats on farmland has been launched by a charity in Fordingbridge after getting the go-ahead for National Lottery funding.

A FUND that will provide budding scientists and land managers the chance to explore ecological research has been launched in memory of an internationally-renowned scientist, who has died aged 77.

An example of different groups working closely together to conserve declining birds is being led by a Fordingbridge-based charity.

In Britain, grey partridge numbers have dropped by an astonishing 80% since 1945. In order to show people how to save this beautiful and iconic bird of the British countryside, the Lincolnshire Grey Partridge Group will be holding an evening dedicated to informing farmers and land managers of how they can help to reverse this alarming decline in numbers.

A day of sporting challenges in Kendal, Cumbria has raised just over £7,000 for wildlife research. The Levens Team Challenge was arranged by the Lancashire and Cumbria branches of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT), and the money raised will go towards funding their groundbreaking conservation research.

There is no question that the illegal killing of wildlife is unacceptable. The GWCT welcomes the insight of Scottish Natural Heritage’s report on the fates of satellite-tracked golden eagles and looks forward to scrutinising it in greater depth. We will be working with partners across the conservation sector and in government to develop policy and management that will address the issues raised in this and other reports on the conservation status of important species.

Nottinghamshire members of the UK's leading wildlife research charity raised a spectacular £57,000 at a sumptuous gourmet dinner and auction this spring. The money raised will go towards funding the pioneering conservation research of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT).
