The latest assessment of the status of all the UK’s 245 regularly occurring bird species – Birds of Conservation Concern 5 – shows that 70 species are now of ‘highest conservation concern’ and have been placed on the assessment’s Red List. The newly revised Red List now includes familiar species, such as the swift, house martin and greenfinch that have been added for the first time.

A preview evening and two-day exhibition of paintings, drawings, prints and bronze sculpture by two renowned wildlife artists is to be held in Northumberland to raise money for the UK's leading wildlife research charity, the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT), as well as Brain Tumour Research and The High Sheriff Awards. 

Sir Jim Paice, Chairman of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT), has called on people who care about the British countryside to help the charity challenge misinformation and ensure that policy decisions are based on science.

A new wildlife conservation project is giving a remarkable insight into the domestic arrangements of a barn owl family, by live-streaming nest-cam footage from a barn owl nest box in Dorset.

Following our involvement in the research and subsequent roll-out of a methodology for counting mountain hares at night approved by NatureScot, the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust is pleased to be part of the project group now seeking to extend recording nationally to help inform conservation efforts.

The Curlew Recovery Partnership is a new, exciting and transformative initiative, bringing together all those with an interest in curlew conservation, including land managers, farmers, gamekeepers, policymakers and researchers. They are joining forces to help secure the future of one of England’s most iconic and threatened species, the Eurasian curlew.
