The launch of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust’s 2015 Big Farmland Bird Count got off to a remarkable start this week, when all the GWCT’s key partner organisations plus local farmers spent the day on the GWCT’s first bird identification day on the award-winning LEAF demonstration farm of Patrick Barker in Suffolk.

The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) has announced that its second Big Farmland Bird Count (BFBC) will take place between 7th and 15th February 2015. This leading UK research charity is asking farmers, landowners, birdwatchers and gamekeepers to spend 30 minutes recording the species and number of birds seen on one particular area of the firm this coming winter.

Efforts to increase farm productivity while supporting wildlife and the environment have been given a boost through the launch of a substantial £4.5 million Defra-funded research initiative that will bring together expertise from across the farming industry and research community in England and Wales in order to ensure a more sustainable farming sector in the future.
