One of the country's biggest clay shooting events takes place in Whitfield Hexham, Northumberland on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May.

We are delighted to announce that Smith & Williamson, the accountancy and investment management group, has kindly sponsored a woodcock. The firm will be paying for the tagging and satellite tracking of ‘Smithy’, which will allow us to gain a greater insight into the habits of these elusive birds.

The woodcock is one of our most secretive bird species and up until now much of its fascinating ecology has eluded wildlife enthusiasts and researchers. 

Scientists, politicians, conservationists and farmers will be debating the art of the possible to bring about a dramatic wildlife revival in the next six years at a specially convened research conference organised by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust on Tuesday 13^th May at the Royal Geographical Society in London.

Three-year old Molly Puzey is usually up early to help out her mother and father on their sheep farm in Sussex. This week, however, she has a special reason to be out on the farm, as Molly and her parents are among the hundreds of farmers who have been taking part in the Big Farmland Bird Count.

The Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) is now looking for entries for the third annual Julian Gardner Award photographic competition.

More than 900 farmers have now registered to take part in the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust’s Big Farmland Bird Count taking place this week between 1 – 7^th February across the UK.
