Fingask Castle on Sunday 7 December was a great day of celebration for a select group of youngsters as they were awarded for their artistic talent. Our annual art competition, launched in August 2025 invited school-aged pupils from across Perth & Kinross, Angus and Aberdeenshire to submit a piece of artwork showing their favourite species of game or wildlife in its natural habitat.
Encouraged to go and do some research they then presented their artwork, over 1,000 entries were received and a lucky 60 of them were invited to our day of celebration at Fingask.
They enjoyed a day of rural activities including:
- Artwork shop with Mel Shand
- Fishing lessons from Charlie Brownlow of Borders fly fishing
- Pheasant plucking with The Angus Moorland Group followed closely by a quick cooking demonstration with Sanjay Bhattacharya
- Falconry session which included ferrets
- A young ecologists workshop with GWCT
- A delicious lunch of Venison stew prepared by Adam Newth
Everyone had a great day and went home with prizes, certificates and big smiles on their faces. It is with thanks to the Shannel Trust that we have been able to present so many great prizes. Many thanks also go to RHET and RNCI for offering prizes of farm visits for the winning primary artists and their whole class.
